Isaiah’s Vision: Seeing God’s Holiness
In the book of Isaiah, the prophet Isaiah tells us about when he saw God’s holiness. It was a profound experience for him.
In Isaiah 6:1, Isaiah tells us he saw the Lord on His throne. The Lord was very high, above everything else.
Isaiah’s vision showed the amazing glory of God. God’s robe filled the temple with His presence when Isaiah saw Him.
Isaiah watched the seraphim angels. They said, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!”1
This experience1 teaches us about God’s holiness and greatness. It reminds us to show respect when we are in God’s presence.
God’s Holiness and Glory
In Isaiah’s vision, we see God’s holiness, glory, and awesomeness. The seraphim angels covered their faces and feet. They said “holy, holy, holy” to show how pure and righteous God is1.
Isaiah saw God’s holiness and felt his glory. John also wrote about God’s glory, saying it fills the earth with splendor. This shows how worthy God is of our worship1.
But Isaiah was truly amazed by God’s awesomeness. The place shook and was filled with smoke. This symbolized the intense, awe-inspiring nature of God’s holiness1.
Isaiah felt unworthy in God’s presence and confessed his sins. He saw the vast gap between his imperfections and God’s holiness. Isaiah humbly admitted his unworthiness1.
This encounter led Isaiah to understand the severe consequences of sin. The quake and smoke symbolized judgment. They showed the dangers of approaching God with impurity1.
Isaiah’s vision makes us respect and revere God. It teaches us to approach God with humility. We should acknowledge his holiness and give him worship and surrender.
Isaiah’s Humility and Cleansing
Isaiah met the Lord, who was sitting on a great throne. He immediately felt humble and unworthy. In front of God’s perfect holiness, he thought, “Woe is me! For I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips.”2 He then admitted that he was in a group of sinful people.3
But God showed Isaiah mercy and grace in this moment. A seraphim took a burning coal from the altar and touched Isaiah’s lips with it. This was a symbol of being purified and forgiven for his sins.2 It shows how sins are taken away and how a relationship with God can be restored.
“Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: ‘Behold, this has touched your lips; your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged.'”3
Isaiah’s story is a strong example of God’s powerful forgiveness. Through confessing and seeking atonement, God showed He is willing to cleanse and renew our spirits. Atonement and spiritual rebirth are repeated themes in the Bible.
Isaiah’s reaction to being cleansed and called by God was obedience and eagerness. When asked who would go for God, Isaiah answered, “Here am I. Send me!”2 This shows his readiness to do God’s work and his deep wish to share God’s message.
Isaiah’s act of acknowledging his sins leads us to think about our need for God’s forgiveness. It reminds us that true change and closeness to God come when we admit our sins and follow His plan wholeheartedly. When we do this, guilt and sins are taken away, and we enjoy a renewed bond with our Creator.
Responding to God’s Holiness
We are called to respond to the overwhelming holiness of God by surrendering ourselves and proclaiming His message. Isaiah’s story tells us how he saw the glory of the Lord fill the temple until it shook. The room was so full of smoke, it showed God’s might and purity1. This caused Isaiah to feel incredibly small and unworthy before God.
Isaiah saw angels called seraphim covering their faces and feet, showing deep respect. This act highlights God’s unmatched purity and holiness. It makes Isaiah realize how flawed he is, saying, “I am a man of unclean lips”1.

It pushes us to live in a way that mirrors His purity and spread His truth.
